So WT spent this past Monday night at or house, sleeping on the couch because we don't have a spare bed for her right now. Tuesday morning my wife took me to work so she could take WT to her ultrasound and also take her down to Social Services.
They started their day at the Social Services office, where they were told since WT works (minimum wage, but still full time) she can't get food stamps or cash assistance, regardless of the face that she's pregnant. We were told that we should take her to a battered woman's shelter and let her hit up the food pantries. She did get set with appointments for WIC and Medicaid at the end of the month, both of which she should easily qualify for.
From there, my wife took her for her ultrasound, where she found she has a healthy baby and is about 7 weeks along.
Which poses a lovely problem... this puts her conception at a time that she was (I kid you not) going back and forth from BlackDaddy to KKKousin and sleeping with them both. So she now has no idea who the father is and has no real practical way of finding out until the baby is born, when it will be plainly obvious who the father is.
In the meantime, we're not being too strict with WT as far as telling her to pay rent or going over how we run our house; that's a talk we're having this weekend with her. We're going to make her pay us rent each week (probably to the tune of 50-70 per week) and out of this we'll feed and house her. If she has a problem with that, I'm going to tell her she's more than welcome to rent a place somewhere else.
The only problem I've had with her so far occurred yesterday; she, for some odd reason, is afraid of strange dogs and we have three dogs that she's not very comfortable around. I have no idea why, since they're not aggressive towards her at all, but that's how she is. Tuesday night she spent the night at T's to babysit S. I called her yesterday to ask if she was coming home, to which she said yes. I pointed out to her that if she came home she'd be alone with the three dogs today (our son is coming home from a week-long trip to L and Professor's house today) and, while I absolutely didn't care if she was home, that she might want to stay another day with her sister. She agreed and told me that's what she'd do.
She then talked to my wife last night and when this came up WT told her she stayed because she didn't think I wanted her to come to the house. My wife was very direct in telling her that's not at all what I meant; I just knew she wasn't comfortable with the dogs and she'd have to take them out and deal with them were she to come home.
So we're picking her up tonight when we go to get our son.
More updates will be coming, I promise... this has the potential to be interesting.
